The parental units. Thanks for everything you’ve done for me! You guys rock!!Image

Epic inukshook cake made by my sister. Only appropriate for this northern medic!

So today was my convocation, finally! T’was a little hot but thankfully it was in the Scotiabank Place Canadian Tire Centre, with air conditioning! I was very lucky to be able to spend today with my classmates, mom, dad, sister and Aunt Peggy. Some of the people who made this day possible.

Two long years of studying, lab practice, exams and insane scenarios (that you think would never happen in the field but I’m sure I’ll see some crazy stuff up north) has all come down to today. Walked across the stage and got my diploma, booyah!

Only one more week until I leave! I’ve been almost packing, I’ve condensed a bunch of junk into a couple square feet on my bedroom floor, and played with the spacebags I bought! Hello squishy duvet! I’m the best packing procrastinator.

Well that’s all for now!

Decision Made.

My life did a couple little flips yesterday in terms of jobs but it has all been figured out! Yesterday I was contacted by a service in Labrador offering me a job in Goose Bay (which actually got changed to New Wes Valley NFLD). I spoke with them on the phone this morning and worked out all the details of the job out there. After comparing both jobs side by side I’ve decided I’ll be sticking with Inuvik. It will make more sense financially in the long run. Although the position in New Wes Valley would put me much closer to my maternal grandparents, who I don’t get to see as much as I’d like, it would end up costing me much more to live there. So that’s just the little blip in my life plan, for those who saw my indecisive Facebook status yesterday. It’s all worked out now! I guess I should start packing up sometime soon.

Oh yeah! Great news today, Canadian North (one of the airlines that flies in and out of Inuvik) offers discounts to medical professionals (because I am one of those now!! K, minor excitement freak out aside), on flights anywhere they fly! Hello vacations!!

Hello peoples,

So, I’m starting a blog to keep everyone in the loop on my life in Northern Canada. Inuvik, Northwest Territories, to be precise. I’m starting a job (my FIRST job) as a Primary Care Paramedic! I start on July 10th but am leaving the nation’s capital on July 5th to start training and get settled into my new cold home. No clue what else to add to this seeing as I’m still sitting in my living room in my warm, cozy Ottawa house… for only 16 more days. I’m also attaching a situationally inappropriate picture, but whatevs, I had nothing else to use.

Keep ya posted!

Laura.
